A space exclusively for the G-Class… Mercedes-Benz’s pride revealed in the world’s second place in China

[베이징(중국)=김재성 기자] In a space in the 798 Art District in Beijing, China, the world’s second-largest market for Mercedes-Benz G-Class sales, hundreds of media representatives from around the world were busy in anticipation of the appearance of the first G-Class electric car. To unveil The All Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ technology, Mercedes-Benz created a space to be used for just one day.

As a large budget was spent, the Mercedes-Benz executives and employees in attendance were also extravagant. From executives in charge of each brand department to members of the Mercedes-Benz board of directors, they appeared at the unveiling of the G-Class electric vehicle. Gasometer 79, designated as a public space, will be demolished after being used for just one day, with media and customer events held on the morning and afternoon of the 24th (local time), respectively.

79 Gasometer is a reconstructed gas storage tank made with cement on the floor and steel plates on the walls, and is a building that makes secondary use of old industrial resources. It is the perfect place for the G-Class, which has produced more than 500,000 units since its launch in 1979 and has continued its history with only partial changes for 45 years, to be reborn through electrification.

In particular, this G-Class electric vehicle is also meaningful in redefining the electrified lineup that Mercedes-Benz was launching with the EQ series. The launch name of this G-Class electric vehicle is The All Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology. The name was changed to be added after the car name instead of EQG.

It is unclear whether future models will have the same name, but it certainly seems to be a new challenge. An industry insider said, “I understand that this event prepared by Mercedes-Benz is the largest event ever.”

The Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle unveiled on this day showed stronger performance than internal combustion vehicles with off-road capabilities, even though it was an electric model. It can also pass through water depths of 850 mm, which is 150 mm deeper than the existing model. This performance is possible because Mercedes-Benz developed a platform for the G-Class electric vehicle.

“With three cooling layers, we can maintain the operating temperature in all activities,” said Markus Schaefer, Mercedes-Benz’s chief developer. “It prevents water and dust from entering, and a carbon plate protects the bottom of the battery, making it thick and sturdy.” “He boasted.

On this day, the G-Class electric car stopped at a 35-degree downward slope that Mercedes-Benz created to resemble the Schöckl Mountains, a rugged mountainous area. The G-Class, which stopped for a moment, went uphill again in reverse and came down naturally without a single slip. The G-Class electric vehicle has a high level of off-road driving ability and can safely climb up and down inclines of up to 35 degrees and 70%.

A sense of stability was added to the G-Class heritage. By applying the transparent bonnet, which can be selected as an option, safety is improved by allowing all surrounding spaces, including blind spots, to be checked through a display connected to the dashboard when driving on rough terrain. In addition, the rear tire holder, one of the signatures, allows you to store the charger cable.
