Daegu City announced on the 25th that it will expand and reorganize the existing economical transportation card and implement the K-Pass Card support project starting from the 1st of next month. This project, which is being promoted in conjunction with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, is a measure to encourage citizens to save on transportation costs and use public transportation in an era of high oil prices and high inflation.

K-Pass is a system that accumulates a certain percentage of the amount used regardless of the distance traveled. Therefore, it has the advantage of being easier, more convenient, and available nationwide. The accumulation rate is also higher than that of the existing economical transportation card, resulting in greater transportation cost savings.

The K-Pass Card is a transportation card that saves a certain percentage of the amount spent (20% for general people, 30% for young people, 53% for low-income people) when you use public transportation more than 15 times and up to 60 times a month and returns it to you the next month.

Based on the city bus fare (regular card fare of 1,500 won), 300 won for the general public, 450 won for young people, and 800 won for low-income people can be accumulated and refunded. To receive the benefit, you must use a dedicated card. In this case, the general public can refund up to 216,000 won per year, young people can refund up to 324,000 won, and low-income people can refund up to 576,000 won.

As the existing economical transportation card service will end on the 30th, in order for existing subscribers to continue receiving refund benefits, they must convert to K-Pass on the economical transportation card website by June 30. If you use it without converting, no refund will be given.

K-Pass Card can be used as both prepaid and postpaid cards. Detailed subscription instructions can be found on the K-Pass website after issuing the desired card.

Daegu City plans to secure a total of 5.3 billion won in project expenses, including the first supplementary budget, to support K-Pass. In addition, we plan to continue to secure the budget to ease the burden of public transportation fares on citizens.

Kim Dae-young, director of Daegu City’s Transportation Bureau, said, “As many citizens are burdened with transportation costs in this era of high oil and inflation rates, we hope that many people will participate so that they can save on transportation costs by using the newly introduced K-Pass card.”
