In an interview with Vogue France published on the 22nd (local time), Dion said, “I am trying to accept the reality while also hoping that a cure will be found miraculously.”
Dion previously announced on his Instagram in December 2022 that he was suffering from ‘Systemic Muscle Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS)’, a rare neurological disease. This is a disease that causes muscle spasms caused by auditory, tactile, or emotional stimulation, and it is known that there are only 8,000 patients worldwide.
Dion said, “I receive exercise, physical and voice therapy five days a week,” and added, “Now I have to learn how to live with the disease.” After he was first diagnosed, he could not hide his despair and asked himself, “Why me?” “How did this happen?” It is said that he used to ask the question, “Is it my fault?” He added, “But life doesn’t give you any answers. “I just live,” he said.
He said, “I stay home, listen to my songs, stand in front of the mirror, and sing to myself.” “I chose to cooperate with the medical staff with my whole body and soul from head to toe,” he said. “I want to be in the best possible condition, and my goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again.”
“I have good doctors and good treatment,” Dion said. Moreover, I know that I have the power within me and nothing will stop me,” he said, expressing his determination.
Dion previously revealed that he was struggling with the disease, saying, “Unfortunately, convulsions affect all aspects of daily life. “Sometimes it becomes difficult to walk and it becomes difficult to use the vocal cords to sing.” He even canceled all of his scheduled concert schedules due to his illness. He expressed regret about this and said, “I always give 100% effort when performing, but my current condition does not allow that.”
