Gimhae City is implementing the ‘Local Dengue Fever Prevention and Management Project’ starting this year to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne infectious diseases imported from abroad and prevent them from becoming localized in the country.

This project is an expansion of the dengue fever early detection project for those entering the quarantine phase implemented by the existing National Quarantine Service, and is a project to prepare for the occurrence of severe patients due to dengue fever and to establish a rapid and organic diagnosis and treatment system.

Dengue fever is an infectious disease spread by the bite of a mosquito infected with the dengue virus. There have been no cases of infection domestically, and it is occurring due to infection from overseas.

In particular, the possibility of dengue fever being introduced into the country from Southeast Asia is increasing, so special caution must be taken when traveling abroad.

Dengue fever is infected by being bitten by an Aedes mosquito infected with the dengue virus, and after an incubation period of 5 to 7 days, symptoms such as headache, fever, rash, orbital pain, and muscle pain appear. If not treated in a timely manner or reinfected, the disease deteriorates to a serious condition, resulting in a fatality rate. This rises.

As there is still no effective vaccine or treatment, prevention such as preventing mosquito bites, rapid diagnosis, and symptomatic treatment are important.

Rules for preventing mosquito-borne infectious diseases include avoiding grassy areas and mountains as much as possible, wearing long, bright-colored clothes, and using mosquito repellent to avoid mosquito bites as much as possible.

If you have any suspicious symptoms such as fever or headache within 2 weeks after traveling abroad, or if the dengue fever rapid test at the quarantine center is positive, you can visit a medical institution for treatment, or visit the Gimhae City Public Health Center or Gimhae City Western Public Health Center to receive a free confirmatory diagnostic test.

In addition, in the event of a serious patient, a medical cooperation system is established centered on medical institutions with nearby emergency medical facilities, enabling prompt treatment.

Shin Gil-jae, director of the Western Public Health Center, said, “As the number of overseas travelers has increased since the COVID-19 pandemic, mosquito-borne infectious diseases are on the rise.” He added, “To prevent them from becoming localized in the local community, follow mosquito prevention rules when traveling abroad, and when suspicious symptoms occur, visit the local public health center and “We urge you to visit a medical institution,” he said.
