Jeonnam Province announced on the 24th that it will begin investigating and managing unregistered steep slopes to minimize safety blind spots.

In order to manage dense steep slopes, the province is conducting a survey service on 1,000 unregistered areas suspected of being dangerous densely located in the residential areas of the province.

Through a fact-finding survey, we plan to investigate the scale, slope type, risk factors, etc. of steep slopes, conduct a risk assessment, include them in management targets, and build a database (DB) including spatial information.

In addition, in order to carry out annual maintenance projects such as slope mitigation according to the level of risk, we plan to prepare basic data such as drawings to be used when designated as a collapse risk district and distribute them to the relevant cities and counties for designation and management.

Starting in August, as the management standard for artificial slopes adjacent to buildings such as houses will be strengthened from the current 5m to 3m or more, management of small slopes will also be expanded to include steep slope management.

Song Gwang-min, head of the provincial natural disaster department, said, “We will expand and excavate steep slopes where there is a high risk of casualties, strengthen safety management, and protect the lives and property of provincial residents from risks such as slope collapse.”

The management targets for steep slopes in the Jeonnam region are 1,968 locations. Among these, 415 areas have been designated as collapse risk areas and are being renovated.
