Lotte Chilsung Beverage wins Prime Minister’s Award at ‘Korea Packaging Competition’

Lotte Chilsung Beverage won the Prime Minister’s Award on the 23rd for its transparent beer package at the ’18th Korea Packaging Competition’.

The ‘Korea Packaging Daejeon’, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Packaging Technology Center of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, has been held since 2007 and marks its 18th anniversary this year.

Lotte Chilsung Beverage won the Prime Minister’s Award and the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology Director’s Award by submitting ‘Recyclable Single Material Transparent Beer PET’ and ‘Chilsung Cider Full-Recycle Package’ at this ‘Korea Packaging Competition’. It received high praise in areas such as technology, sustainability, marketability, and expressiveness.

‘Recyclable single-material transparent beer PET’, which won the Prime Minister’s Award, is Korea’s first single-material transparent beer PET packaging material that maintains beer quality by applying an oxygen blocker and full label and is recyclable. Existing colored beer PET containers were made of composite materials and were difficult to recycle. Single-material transparent beer PET packaging material can be recycled as high-quality PET raw material without separate label separation, as the ink printed on the label peels off during the recycling process, leaving only the same material as the PET bottle body.

The ‘Chilsung Cider Full-Recycle Package’, which won the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology Director’s Award, applied some recycled raw materials to the container, lid, and film packaging material, and the lid used chemically recycled raw materials for the first time in the industry.

An official from Lotte Chilsung Beverage said, “Crush Transparent Beer PET is a culmination of packaging technology created through numerous tests over a long period of time for ease of recycling,” and added, “We will continue to lead sustainable change through the development of eco-friendly packaging.”
