South Jeolla Province Governor Kim Young-rok visited the Port of Odense, Denmark, on the 23rd (local time), heard the operation status from Odense Port Company’s senior business development manager Morton Diederich, and inspected the Vestas Wind Systems A/S turbine plant.

Odense Port is the center of the global offshore wind power industry. It is Denmark’s largest port, located northeast of Fün Island, Denmark’s second largest island. More than 150 offshore wind power companies have moved in and are producing over 1,800 types of offshore wind power parts and equipment. Approximately 20% of European offshore wind farm maintenance is carried out at the Port of Odense.

Governor Kim Young-rok said, “At Odense Port, we were able to see at a glance the full-cycle industrial ecosystem from research and development-production-assembly-transportation-installation-maintenance of offshore wind power.” He added, “The province will use Odense Port as a role model and establish Mokpo New Port as an Asian “We plan to create a Pacific offshore wind power hub, and we hope AP Moller-Maersk will play a big role in revitalizing Mokpo New Port.”

Governor Kim then inspected the Vestas Lindo plant, the world’s No. 1 turbine company, located in Odense Port. The Lindo factory, which has been in operation since 2014, is the core and first product production facility of Vestas offshore wind turbines, which has produced several models with an area of approximately 40,000 m2.

Governor Kim said, “Having seen firsthand the process of producing and assembling a huge offshore wind turbine, I am even more excited about the Mokpo New Port Turbine Plant, where Vestas offshore wind turbines will be produced.” He added, “We will obtain permits and approvals so that the Mokpo New Port Turbine Plant can be completed on time as planned. “We will actively provide administrative support, including investment support,” he emphasized.

The province’s goal is to foster the blue ocean industry by establishing an offshore wind power supply chain value chain and revive it as a new industry on a scale comparable to the shipbuilding industry, the main industry in the southwestern region.
