(Daily Daegu-Gyeongbuk News = Reporter Hwang Ji-hyeon) Shin Hyo-gwang (Cheongsong, People Power Party), a member of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Council, asked questions at the 1st plenary session of the 346th Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Council on April 23 to discuss stable apple production management measures and advancement of cultivation technology; They inquired about the expansion of veterans’ honors for war veterans in the province, the successful implementation of the Hahoe Scientist Village construction project, and the efficient management of closed schools in the province, and strongly urged the preparation of countermeasures.

Rep. Shin Hyo-kwang first discussed short-term and mid- to long-term response plans to prepare for crop disaster damage that is becoming more frequent due to climate change, and Gyeongbuk Province’s response to lead the development of orchard industry technology, such as rain cover cultivation of apples and distribution of multi-axis cultivation technology, and future apple imports. It was requested that measures be taken to prepare for the promotion.

Next, in relation to strengthening the courtesy of veterans in the province, Gyeongbuk-do’s measures emphasized the need to increase the honorary allowance paid by the province, provide undifferentiated support to veterans of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and provide allowances at the provincial level to the widows of veterans of the Korean War. It was proposed to prepare a standard payment plan for the different amounts of veterans’ honorable pay for each of the 22 cities and counties in the province.

Next, in relation to the Hahoe Scientist Village development project being promoted in Gyeongbuk Province, questions were asked about the successful promotion of Hahoe Scientist Village, including Gyeongbuk Province’s differentiated strategy and ways to secure retired scientists, using the failure cases of similar projects in other provinces as an example. He ordered the executive branch to promote related projects in connection with local conditions and central government policies.

In the question on the field of education, in a situation where the number of closed schools continues to increase due to a decrease in the school-age population, measures are being taken to deal with unused closed schools, which currently number 57 in the province, and unauthorized use or use of closed schools for purposes other than those permitted is pointed out, and measures are taken for inappropriate use. They called for the establishment of a dedicated organization for planning and efficient use of closed schools and measures to strengthen the functions of related organizations.

Rep. Shin Hyo-gwang expressed his intention to participate in legislative activities, saying, “I will inspect various projects of the executive branch and continue to discover policy alternatives so that a local era led by Gyeongbuk can unfold where all residents of the province are happy amidst the crisis of local disappearance.”
