120 small libraries participate in the ‘Mentoring Operation Project’

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 24th that it will implement the ‘Small Library Cooperation Support Project’ to improve the services of the small library in front of my home and expand its role as a cultural space suited to regional characteristics.

There are currently 1,676 small libraries in operation in Gyeonggi-do, and service differences between small libraries are very large depending on conditions such as manpower, facilities, and environment.

The cooperation support project was designed to resolve these differences in small libraries. A total budget of 250 million won will be invested, and it will be divided into ‘mentoring operation project’ and ‘regional specialized cultural project’.

The ‘Mentoring Operation Project’ is carried out in a mutual cooperation manner by connecting one excellent mentor library and three small libraries wishing to grow, providing and passing on operational know-how.

Mentoring fees and reading program operating expenses will be supported for 30 mentor libraries and 90 small (mentee) libraries, and a contest will be held until May 3 to select the small libraries that will participate.

The ‘Regional Specialized Cultural Project’ is a project to discover specialized cultural programs that reflect the characteristics of the region where the small library is located and the needs of residents, and supports an operating cost of 2 million won per library. 20 locations will be selected through public contest around June.

Kim Dong-ju, head of the library policy department, said, “I hope that small libraries will establish themselves as spaces loved by provincial residents by providing opportunities for continued growth through mutual cooperation between small libraries and the discovery of specialized projects.”

Meanwhile, small libraries wishing to participate in the contest can apply after checking the notices from the Gyeonggi Province Small Library Council and the Gyeonggi Province Cyber Library, which are the project executing organizations.
