Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon announced the ‘Comprehensive Plan for Water Revitalization of the Han River’, a sequel to the ‘Great Han River Project’, which covered development plans around the Han River, including the installation of gondolas, last year at a press briefing held at City Hall.

The plan is to revitalize water use by building offices and lodging facilities on the water of the Han River and increasing leisure facilities by 2030.

″You can say that the focus has shifted from a plan that used only the surrounding berms to how to activate the use of the water.″

This plan, with a total budget of 550 billion won, includes building a hotel in the current Yeouido Mulbit Stage area.

This year, Seoul City plans to go through a feasibility study by the Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation, select a private operator within next year, and begin construction in 2026.

Also included was a plan to create a floating food zone where people can taste food from around the world while looking at the view of the Han River, and to operate a water public transportation system called the ‘Han River River Bus.’

In particular, the city of Seoul has also announced a plan to build a cable water ski resort so that citizens can enjoy a variety of leisure activities on the Han River.

Next, the plan is to build a ‘marina’, a type of port facility, in Jamsil and Ichon, and increase the number of mooring facilities from the current 130 ships to 1,000 for citizens who own motorized water leisure equipment such as motor boats.

In addition, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will build Seoul Port, a domestic passenger terminal connecting the Han River and the West Sea, at Yeouido Hangang Park in the second half of 2026, connecting the waterway to the West Sea and making it a water tourism hub.
