[여주=이상익기자] As Yeoju City is the only city in Gyeonggi-do to receive the ‘Comprehensive Integrity Level 1’ for two consecutive years and has established itself as the best organization for integrity, there is a craze for benchmarking Yeoju City’s excellent integrity policies across the country.

According to city officials, a total of 18 public institutions, including Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do, Hwaseong-si, Yangju-si, and Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency, visited Yeoju City from January to April this year alone to benchmark Yeoju’s integrity policy.

The reason why Yeoju City’s integrity policy is attracting the attention of various public institutions, including metropolitan and basic local governments across the country, is that in 2022, the city will focus on improving areas vulnerable to corruption, achieving a 4-grade increase from the 5th grade in integrity to the 1st grade. This is because, in the subsequent 2023 evaluation, we achieved the honor of being ranked ‘1st grade in comprehensive integrity for two consecutive years’ by promoting integrity policies with high consensus.

Yeoju City provided the secret to achieving the 1st grade in integrity, which many organizations were curious about as of last year, for benchmarking visiting organizations, as well as ‘visiting customized integrity education’ that raised public officials’ awareness of integrity, and ‘Integrity’ that created a culture of integrity through informal communication between department heads and employees. ·We are actively sharing information on excellent integrity policies that are highly relatable, such as the ‘Communication Day’ and the ‘Visiting Integrity Briefing Session with Department Heads’ where high-ranking public officials lead by example.

As the interest of all public institutions in comprehensive integrity evaluation is increasing and everyone is focusing on efforts to achieve a high grade, we communicate with those in charge of directly promoting integrity policies in the field through benchmarking and experience the concerns, trials and errors, etc. The time to share vivid reviews is a great help in determining the direction of integrity policies and promoting plans.

Yeoju Mayor Lee Choong-woo said, “So far this year, we have visited 18 public institutions across the country for benchmarking to learn about Yeoju City’s excellent integrity policies. “In order to contribute to the spread of a culture of integrity in the public service community, Yeoju City plans to actively share the secrets of integrity that reflect the concerns and efforts of all our employees,” he said. “Citizens and public officials will work together to become an example as the nation’s best city of integrity this year.” He expressed his determination to “practice an integrity administration that can be empathized with and work harder to achieve a level 1 overall integrity rating for three consecutive years.”
