The ‘Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education Establishment and Support Ordinance for Special Classes’ proposed by Rep. Cho Yong-jin of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council (Gimcheon 3, Kukpower) passed the Board of Education’s review on April 24.
The main point of the ordinance is to stipulate the matters necessary for establishing special class establishment and facility standards. It consists of △ regulations on the responsibilities of superintendents, superintendents, and school principals △ establishment of special class establishment plans △ special class establishment and facility standards, etc.
Professional education services for those eligible for special education are divided into ‘special schools’ and ‘special classes’. Currently, in Gyeongbuk, there are 8 special schools (3 public, 5 private) that are specialized special education institutions, and ‘special classes’ refer to separate classrooms for special education students in general elementary, middle, and high schools.
Rep. Meanwhile, the passed ordinance is scheduled to be implemented after review at the 346th plenary session on May 3.
