The prosecution said, “There is no room for leniency or sympathy,” and “there is no room for leniency or sympathy” at the appeal trial for Choi’s alleged violation of the Punishment Act for Sexual Violence Crimes (rape and murder) held on the 24th at the Seoul High Court’s Criminal Division 14-3 (Presiding Judge Lim Jong-hyo). “Please sentence me to death together.”

The prosecution said, “As a result of Choi Yun-jong’s crime, the victim lost his irreplaceable life, and the ordinary daily life of the bereaved family was completely destroyed.” He continued, “Choi Yun-jong is not making any efforts to recover from the damage and is only making efforts to receive less punishment.”

In his final statement, Choi Yun-jong only said, “I am very sorry to the bereaved family and pray for the victim to rest in peace.” Choi Yoon-jong’s lawyer said in his final argument, “I had many conversations with Choi Yoon-jong, and he is repeating his statement that there was no definite intention to commit murder.” He added, “The prosecution said that Choi Yun-jong planned the murder, but he planned a sexual crime, not murder.” .

Choi Yoon-jong was indicted on charges of indiscriminately assaulting victim A with a fist with iron knuckles and strangling her to death for at least three minutes on the Mokgol Mountain hiking trail in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul on the morning of August 17th last year. Mr. A was left at the scene for about 20 minutes and was taken to the hospital in cardiac arrest, where he died two days later. Although he claimed that he had no intention to kill, the first trial court in January sentenced him to life imprisonment, saying, “He is found guilty of the indictment, including intent to kill.”

The second trial will be held on June 12th.
