In collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, KEPCO held a ‘Nuclear Power Plant Export Information Session’ at the KEPCO Art Center on April 23 for 25 heads of diplomatic missions from major countries related to overseas nuclear power plant projects, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia.

[일렉트릭파워 이재용 기자] Korea Electric Power Corporation (CEO Kim Dong-cheol), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held a ‘Nuclear Power Plant Export Information Session’ at the KEPCO Art Center on April 23 for 25 heads of diplomatic missions from major countries related to overseas nuclear power plant projects, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia.

The significance of this briefing session is that it comprehensively reexamined order acquisition strategies tailored to the ordering country by reflecting vivid local trend information from heads of diplomatic missions working on the front line of diplomacy.

At this briefing session, the current status of nuclear power plant-related issues, such as the current status of UAE nuclear power plant construction, overseas nuclear power plant development status, and innovative small module nuclear power plant (i-SMR), were shared with heads of diplomatic missions abroad.

KEPCO explained the driving force, construction and operation status of the UAE nuclear power plant project, which KEPCO succeeded in exporting as the main contractor for the first time in Korea in 2009, and the status of development of the follow-up nuclear power plant project currently being promoted based on the experience and trust assets accumulated over a long period of time in the global nuclear power plant market. .

In addition, there was an opportunity to share the development status and future plans for innovative nuclear reactors, one of the recent hot topics in the energy industry.

KEPCO President Kim Dong-cheol said, “Energy security issues and the decarbonization crisis can be a new opportunity for us, and we emphasized that close communication between overseas embassies and KEPCO is necessary to win orders for a second nuclear power plant, and we will actively promote our capabilities and advantages to countries adopting nuclear power plants.” “I ask the heads of diplomatic missions abroad to promote it,” he said.

He went on to emphasize, “Everyone in Team Korea must be thoroughly armed with the spirit of patriotism in energy and marshal all national capabilities so that we can once again resound with the victory of winning a nuclear power plant order in the UAE in 2009.”
