[디스커버리뉴스=이명수 기자] Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province, announced that ‘Gwangju Joseon White Porcelain Yoji’ won the grand prize in the local luxury brand category at the ‘2024 Korea Prestigious Luxury Products Awards’ ceremony held at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul on the 23rd.

The Grand Prize for Korea’s Best Luxury Products, hosted by the Korea Consumers Association, is an award given to products, companies, and local brands that provide consumers with value and satisfaction beyond consumption through consumer awareness surveys.

Gwangju Joseon White Porcelain Site refers to the white porcelain kiln sites of the Joseon Dynasty distributed throughout the entire Gwangju area, including Namjong-myeon, Jungbu-myeon, and Toechon-myeon. Gwangju City, the cradle of Joseon ceramic culture, is where Saongwon, which was in charge of royal cuisine, established a branch, a porcelain factory, and supplied top-quality white porcelain to the Joseon royal family.

‘Gwangju Joseon White Porcelain Site’ is the site of a kiln where white porcelain was produced during the Joseon Dynasty. There are about 330 kilns distributed throughout Gwangju, and 68 of them are designated as National Cultural Heritage Historic Site No. 314.

Gwangju Mayor Bang Se-hwan said, “I am pleased that the excellence of Gwangju’s Joseon white porcelain has been recognized,” and “Through the Joseon Royal Ceramics Conference held in May, we will promote Gwangju’s Joseon white porcelain to the world and continue to carry out projects to preserve, maintain, and utilize cultural assets.” “We will push ahead and develop Gwangju City into a city of history, culture, and tourism,” he said.

Through this award, Gwangju Joseon White Porcelain Yoji is expected to establish itself as a regional luxury brand representing Korea.
