Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo said of the giant panda ‘Fubao’ that was recently returned to China, “I don’t know the true intentions of those who are obsessed with Fubao.”
According to the political circles on the 24th, on Mayor Hong’s online communication platform ‘Youth’s Dream’, a citizen mentioned Mayor Hong’s overseas business trip and said, “They say Fubao lives in Chengdu, China. “Are you bringing Fu Bao with you?” he asked.
Previously, Mayor Hong announced on his Facebook page on the 22nd, “I will be visiting our sister city, Sichuan Province, China, for 5 nights and 6 days next week,” and was asked about the related schedule.
In response, Mayor Hong said, “I don’t know the intentions of those who are obsessed with Fubao. “He is just a panda who went to his hometown after being at the Yongin Natural Farm (Everland).”
Recently, through China’s social networking service (SNS), the image of ‘Fubao’ adapting well in its home country of China was revealed, attracting attention every day.
Fu Bao is the first giant panda in Korea to be born at Everland in Yongin through natural breeding. Fu Bao, who was born to pandas Le Bao and Ai Bao at Everland in Yongin on July 20, 2020, returned to China on the 3rd, 1354 days after birth. Afterwards, Fubao’s life in China was revealed through the China Panda Conservation Research Center.
On the 8th, a civil complaint was filed with the Seoul Metropolitan Government requesting that Fubao be rented for a fee and brought to Seoul Grand Park. In response, Seoul Grand Park refused, saying, “When we think about it from Fubao’s perspective one more time, we hope that Fubao adapts well to the environment in China where he will live in the future and lives happily.”
