[봄봄봄, 충청에 반했나봄] Preliminary preparations for the ‘2025-2026 Visit Chungcheongnam Year’ Festivals will be held by local governments starting next month, with 40 million tourists in the era of various events ranging from Paleolithic experience events to international motor festivals

To celebrate Family Month in May, various festivals are held throughout South Chungcheong Province. Prior to operating the ‘2025-2026 Visit Chungnam Year’, which will serve as a stepping stone for the era of 40 million tourists, the province is setting this year as the year to visit Chungcheongnam-do in earnest to create an atmosphere.

First of all, the ‘Seokjangni Paleolithic Festival’ will be held in Gongju from the 3rd to the 6th of next month. This festival is a historical and cultural festival where children can directly experience and enjoy the culture of life in the Paleolithic era. The facilities within the event venue are designed to be reminiscent of the Paleolithic era as much as possible by being created as a log house, the home of life during the Paleolithic era. A variety of experiences combining education and play that spark children’s curiosity and creativity will be operated at all times during the festival. In particular, this year’s festival, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the excavation of the Seokjang-ri ruins, will invite Paleolithic scholars from around the world and hold a special program that will allow visitors to experience Paleolithic culture abroad.

The ‘AMC International Motor Festival’ will be held at the Boryeong Mud Expo Plaza starting on the 4th. This festival marks its 14th year as an example of Ajou Automobile University’s festival growing into an international competition. It is not limited to domestic automobile culture and motorsports, but is establishing itself as an international motor festival in cooperation with foreign automobile companies. At the event venue, drift bike and off-road competitions will be held along with exhibitions of tuning cars, race cars, brand cars, bikes, and off-road cars.

On the same day, the ‘2024 Hongseong Historical Figure Festival’ will be held in the Hongju-eupseong area of ​​Hongseong-gun. It is the best edutainment festival in the country where you can enjoy and learn about historical figures produced by Hongseong, such as General Choi Young, Seong Sam-moon, and General Kim Jwa-jin. In addition to a time to look at historical figures, there will also be events commemorating Children’s Day, such as a dog training demonstration performance, busking, and a Hongju-eupseong magic show. There are also various activities such as water gun play, water slides, air bounce, and treasure hunts.

Following this, the ’16th Ryu Bang-taek Star Festival’ will be held at the Seosan Ryu Bang-taek Astronomy and Meteorological Science Museum on the 18th. This event is a festival to honor the wishes of Geumheon Ryu Bang-taek, an astronomer from the late Goryeo Dynasty who produced a national treasure celestial train field map and publicized the excellence of Korea’s astronomical science to the world. Family-level experience events related to astronomy and science, such as creating 16 science experiences such as astronomical observations and an air rocket launch contest, will be held.

You can see the ‘Janghang Port Koolgap Festival’ from the 19th to the 28th in the Seocheon Janghang Port water dock area. At the festival site, not only a variety of fresh raw fish, but also various tasting events are held to promote Seocheon’s excellent marine products. From the Dongseocheon Tollgate, you can drive along the Geumgang Estuary coastal road, which stretches for about 10km, and also enjoy the Janghang Refinery chimney, an amusement park, Hansan Shinseong-ri reed field (film location for the movie JSA), and Hansan Ramie Hall.

The last festival of May held in South Chungcheong Province is held in Cheonan. The ‘2024 Cheonan K Culture Expo’, which is in its second year this year, will be held at the Cheonan Independence Hall for 5 days starting on the 22nd under the theme of ‘Global K Culture, Coloring the World’. The expo introduces the Korean Wave through exhibition halls in four fields, including webtoons, beauty, food, and Hangul. In addition, various cultural arts and episodes from the independence movement period will be introduced, including a K-pop concert with music critics, and various congratulatory performances will also be held.

An official from South Chungcheong Province said, “We are continuing to promote tourism development projects that take advantage of the characteristics of each region in the province,” and added, “We will discover and foster stay-oriented tourism content that goes beyond simple festivals and open the era of 40 million tourists in the future.”
