Our Home won the ‘Korea Packaging Technology Society Chairman’s Award’ at the 2024 Korea Packaging Competition

‘HMR Velcro Ball Steam Pouch’ was submitted and received the Korea Packaging Technology Association Chairman’s Award, honored for three consecutive years.

Global Food Care & Catering Our Home (CEO Ji-eun Koo) announced on the 24th that it won the ‘Korea Packaging Technology Society Chairman Award’ at the ‘2024 Korea Packaging Competition (Korea Star Awards 2024)’. Our Home has been recognized for its capabilities in food packaging technology research by winning awards for three consecutive years starting in 2022.

‘Korea Packaging Competition’ is a representative government award system related to industrial product packaging hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Since 2007, we have evaluated functionality and marketability every year to select excellent companies and products that have contributed to the development of the packaging industry. This year’s awards ceremony was held at KINTEX Exhibition Hall 1 in Ilsan on the 23rd.

Our Home won the Korea Packaging Technology Society Chairman’s Award by submitting ‘HMR Velcro Bowl Steam Pouch’ in the corporate sector of this packaging competition. The packaging material was recognized for its technological excellence as well as its differentiation in terms of sustainability and design.

The HMR Velcro Ball Steam Pouch is equipped with a Velcro zipper to enable steam cooking by allowing steam to escape through the Velcro gap when cooking in a microwave oven, and is designed with a bowl structure so that it can be consumed after cooking without a separate bowl. In addition, the ‘Laser Easy Cut’ function has been applied to prevent contents such as soup and sauce from spilling when opening after cooking to increase convenience.

In addition, sustainability was increased by applying eco-friendly packaging materials. While paper cups coated with medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) or polypropylene (PP) are generally used for microwave cooking, the pouch uses a single polypropylene (PP) material to ensure ease of recycling. When applied to actual products, environmental protection effects can be expected by reducing packaging material waste and carbon emissions by up to approximately 70%.

It also received high praise in the expressiveness category. In the case of pouch products, more precise printing is possible than in paper cup packaging, allowing for cleaner and more detailed design expressions. In addition, water or sauce pouring lines are indicated so that consumers can easily adjust the flavor intensity according to their preference.

Our Home plans to first apply the pouch to combination HMR products with separate contents and sauce, such as ‘Soup Tteokbokki’, ‘Pocha Skewered Fish Cake’, and ‘Chicken Steak’, and gradually expand it. In particular, with the global popularity of K-food, we expect to be able to secure competitiveness in the global market by applying and exporting eco-friendly pouches to snack food and Korean food HMR products.

Oh Ji-young, director of Ourhome R&D Institute, said, “We are pleased that Ourhome has proven its packaging technology by winning for the third consecutive year at the Korea Packaging Competition, which selects winners through strict screening and procedures. “We plan to actively work to develop differentiated packaging,” he said.

Meanwhile, Our Home submitted the ‘Frozen Meat Paper Tray for Air Fryer’ and the ‘Easy Cut Single Polyethylene (PE) Pouch’ at the ’17th Korea Packaging Competition’ last year, winning the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology President’s Award and the Korea Packaging Award, respectively. Received the Technology Society Chairman Award. In 2022, the company won the Korea Packaging Technology Society President Award by submitting the ‘Reclosable Tofu Cap’.
