(Andong = Yonhap News) Reporter Seunghyeong Lee = Gyeongbuk Province proposed a goal of attracting 10 trillion won in private investment using investment funds by 2026.

Through this, the plan is to promote large-scale projects needed in the region, such as building a cancer center and creating a science park.

Investment funds are operated in a way that the public invests in large-scale projects and the private sector invests capital, pursuing both public interest and business feasibility.

The province announced on the 25th that it has prepared four key projects to revitalize private investment and five strategic tasks to support them.

Although it is an investment necessary for local cities to function properly, the fund is planned to be actively utilized in areas that are experiencing difficulties due to insufficient budget to make it a financial project and insufficient business feasibility to pursue it with private capital alone.

In order to expand infrastructure in the vulnerable medical and welfare sectors, we are promoting a next-generation medical campus project that focuses on building a joint medical school campus and a new public medical center, including the construction of a cancer center.

In order to revitalize tourism, the plan is to build a hotel with an ocean view on the east coast, where there are no hotels above 4 stars, and to promote forest resorts, business hotels in industrial complexes, etc., so that each city and county will have one hotel.

We plan to have the private sector, including large distributors, participate in smart farms and agricultural product distribution infrastructure, which have so far been promoted mainly through public finance. We plan to create a smart farm town where crops to be grown are decided in advance and buyers, including food companies and distributors, are confirmed.

In addition, we plan to attract private investment through funds in projects such as traditional liquor industry clusters, industrial complex worker dormitories, energy infrastructure such as large-scale hydrogen fuel cell power plants, hydrogen terminals, and data centers, and bioscience parks such as new drug production plants and start-up spaces. .

In order to promote key tasks, the province decided to create a ‘Gyeongbuk Private Investment Activation Fund’ worth 100 billion won by the end of the year, with half the public and private investments.

In addition, we are proposing the establishment of a dedicated organization, the enactment of related ordinances, and the enactment of a ‘Special Act to Support Local Private Investment Activation’ that clarifies the basis for local government fund investment.

The province judged that it would be difficult to overcome the urgent reality of local extinction as existing financial projects take a long time to secure budget and advance administrative procedures, so it prepared a strategy to stimulate private investment, and as the first central government regional revitalization fund project, a 500-room worker dormitory in the Gumi Industrial Complex was established. A construction project was also selected.

Gyeongbuk Province Governor Lee Cheol-woo said, “As attracting private investment is essential to change the local landscape, we will support the role that the public can play as much as possible.”
