Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 25th that the ‘old documents held by Goheung Jaedongseowon’ has been designated as a tangible cultural property of Jeollanam-do.

The ancient documents held at Jaedongseowon in Goheung, which Jeollanam-do recently announced as a tangible cultural property, are a batch of ancient documents stored at Jaedongseowon, which is owned and managed by the Goheung clan of the Yeosansong clan located in Hwasan-ri, Daeseo-myeon, Goheung-gun. After listening to opinions from all walks of life during the next 30-day notice period, it will be confirmed as a ‘tangible cultural property’ of Jeollanam-do after deliberation by the Cultural Heritage Committee.

The ancient documents held at Jaedongseowon in Goheung include 73 ancient documents from around the Joseon Dynasty before and after the Imjin War, including 71 documents and 2 books of Jeokjeok. Documents include 58 Gosin Gyoji, 9 Gosin Gyocheop, 1 Yeongpae, 1 Nokpae, 1 auspicious letter, and 1 Sujo Holgi. Jeonjeokryu is ‘Jeongchungrok’ (my copy) and ‘Seonmuwonjong meritorious sinnokwon’. From the 1570s to the 1860s, there are a large number of non-official teaching papers and books handed down from the Yeosan Song family of Goheung.

There are a total of 14 people involved in the ancient document, including Song Gan (1405-1480), the study chief of the Goheung entourage group of the Yeosan Song clan (礪山宋氏), and his great-grandson, who guarded Asanjin (阿山鎭) in 1583. This is Song Sun-rye (宋純禮) and his wife, Mrs. Oh, who received the ‘Jeongchungrok’ from . In addition, Song Gan’s great-grandson Song Han (松漢), Song Han’s 7th generation grandson Song Jung-ho, Song Sun-rye’s son Song Cheon-sang, grandsons Song Hong-yeon and Song Hong-won, and great-grandsons Song Gyeong-ryong and Song Si-pil, who served as military officers of General Yi Sun-sin, the left governor of Jeolla Province. In addition, Song Gan’s 6th generation descendant Song Gwan, Song Gwan’s son Song Dae-rip, grandson Song Chim, great-grandson Song Mun-sang, and Song Gan’s 11th generation descendant Song Se-ho.

In particular, ‘Jeongchungrok’ is a movable metal type book that records the record of King Seonjo’s gift to Song Sun-rye, the Asan Byeongma Manho, in July 1585, as well as the ‘Seonsajigi (宣賜之記)’, a seal used on the king’s gifts. (寶印) is stamped on it. The subject of this designation notice is one main book excluding copies and manuscripts.

In addition, in 1619, when Song Hong-yeon was in office as a military officer in Changju, Pyeongan-do, he received the ‘Yeongpae (令牌)’ issued by the Ming Dynasty military organization to Joseon officials, and the ‘Nokpae (祿牌)’ that certifies civil servants’ qualifications to receive the green bonus (祿俸). ‘, ‘Sujoholgi (水操笏記)’ in the form of a folded book used in the training of the Joseon navy, Sumunjang (守門將) who was appointed 2nd class Seonmuwonjong meritorious servant in 1605 (38th year of King Seonjo’s reign) for his contribution to the military during the Japanese invasions of Korea. A copy of the ‘Seonmuwonjong meritorious credit certificate’ issued to Song Han, printed in wood type, is stored in Jaedongseowon and has been announced for designation.

A military official said, “With this notice of designation as a cultural property, it is valuable data that can shed light on Goheung’s military activities during the Japanese invasions of Korea and the ancestors of the Muban family of the Joseon Dynasty,” adding, “The image of Goheung-gun as a sacred place for national patriotism is expected to shine even brighter.”
