Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that 14 cities and counties from 11 cities and counties have applied for the ‘Gyeonggi The Dream Regeneration Project’ contest, which supports opportunities for sustainable urban regeneration in the original downtown area.

This project competition was conducted by devising a mid- to long-term urban regeneration roadmap that takes into account the capabilities of each region, dividing it from the foundation establishment stage to the project promotion stage to the sustainable operation stage so that the region can gradually change.

As a result of conducting a public contest from last January to the 24th of this month, it was confirmed that 10 places applied for the infrastructure construction stage where regions preparing for urban regeneration participate, and 4 applied for the project promotion stage where urban regeneration subject capabilities are in place.

The Gyeonggi The Dream Regeneration Project overcomes the limitations of existing urban regeneration projects that focus on physical projects and proposes various creative ideas suited to local conditions with the resident community at the center.

This is a Gyeonggi-do-style urban regeneration project promoted by Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon’s 8th popularly elected term to regenerate the original downtown.

Previously, the Provincial and Provincial Urban Regeneration Support Centers have conducted customized expert consulting that reflects the diversity and specificity of the region since February in order to make the business plans of participating cities and counties more concrete and improve their completeness.

The province will form an evaluation committee of experts in the urban regeneration field and go through written and face-to-face evaluation, on-site inspection and presentation evaluation procedures to finalize the project volume and cost for each stage within the range of 20 billion won at the end of June.

Jeong Jong-guk, head of the provincial urban regeneration promotion team, said, “We hope that this contest will bring about real change in the local community and become a model for sustainable development,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure that more regions can experience the benefits.”

Meanwhile, the province cooperated with cities, counties, and urban regeneration support centers to revitalize declining areas in the original downtown area of the province, and achieved the result of selecting 66 sites, the largest number in the country, as of last year for the government’s urban regeneration contest.

Last year, in the Gyeonggi The Dream regeneration project contest, 11 locations in 10 cities and counties were selected, including 7 in the foundation construction phase, 3 in the project promotion phase, and 1 in the sustainable operation phase, and the project is being carried out starting this year.
