When the police began investigating a Hanyang University medical student accused of forcing other students to take a leave of absence, Lim Hyun-taek, president-elect of the Korean Medical Association, warned, “If even a single hair is touched, the only thing left is catastrophe.”
According to the industry on the 25th, President-elect Lim wrote on his Facebook page the previous day, “Yesterday, I got in touch with a medical student who said that the Senior Secretary for Social Affairs had requested an investigation.”
He said, “I told you to rest assured that the Korean Medical Association will thoroughly protect you,” and predicted a hard-line response, saying, “We must keep in mind that if the government touches even the slightest detail on medical students, the only thing left is a catastrophe.”
The Seongdong Police Station in Seoul announced the previous day that it was conducting an internal investigation on charges of coercion and obstruction of business against a Hanyang University medical student who forced another student to take a leave of absence and prevented him from returning to class. This case was recently assigned by the National Police Agency to Seongdong Police Station.
On the 18th, the Ministry of Education announced that it had requested an official investigation from the police into cases of coercion to participate in collective action that were received through the Ministry of Education’s ‘Medical School Student Protection and Reporting Center’.
