Moorim (CEO Lee Do-gyun), a comprehensive company in pulp, paper and new materials, once again proved its industry-leading eco-friendly technology by winning two award categories for its eco-friendly pulp and paper products at the ‘2024 Korea Packaging Competition’ hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The ‘moohae (harmless) pulp mold cup lid’, which won the prestigious Korea Institute of Industrial Technology Director’s Award at this Korea Packaging Competition, is a pulp cup lid (lid) designed to prevent drinks from flowing out of the cup during take-out and to allow drinks to be consumed without a straw. am. Existing products are usually made of plastic materials such as polypropylene (PP) and polystyrene (PS). According to data from the Ministry of Environment, as the annual use of disposable cups exceeds 1.024 billion in 2022, related plastic take-out product waste will increase. Concerns about this have also grown. Accordingly, Moorim has been developing a variety of products that replace plastic to contribute to the transition away from plastic, and one of them is a cup lid made from natural biodegradable material and pulp mold.

Not only is the cup lid directly exposed to heat when it contains hot beverages, but many people drink it directly with their mouths. Taking this into consideration, ‘moohae pulp mold cup lid’ uses 100% natural raw pulp and is manufactured in dedicated facilities such as sealed transfer pipes, boasting excellent hygiene without the risk of contamination by foreign substances. It was the only domestic pulp mold industry to obtain food safety system certification (FSSC 22000), proving its world-class food safety.

‘moohae Pulp Mold Cup Lid’ is an upgraded product in terms of eco-friendliness. Moorim’s natural pulp emits 360kgCO2e/ton of carbon, which is only 24% of the carbon emissions of existing polypropylene of 1,500kgCO2e/ton. If disposed of in daily life after use, it biodegrades in 26 weeks and received ‘OK compost HOME’, the highest grade of biodegradability certification from ‘TUV AUSTRIA’, a European testing and certification agency. It also has the recyclability certification of PTS paper.

In addition, Shinwoo Co., Ltd.’s paper packaging material using Moorim’s eco-friendly paper also received the ‘Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award’ at the Korea Packaging Competition, and Moorim’s products achieved the feat of sweeping two award categories. Moorim’s paper ‘Neoforet Inner Frame’ used in Shinwoo Co., Ltd.’s paper packaging material is an eco-friendly product with recyclability certification, and is attracting attention in the cosmetics industry by replacing the plastic tray for fixing products inside existing cosmetics packages with paper.

Meanwhile, the Korea Packaging Daejeon is a prestigious domestic packaging awards ceremony that selects excellent companies and products that have contributed to the development of the packaging industry by evaluating functionality and marketability every year since 2007.
