Chungnam Agricultural Research Institute expands direct seeding rice cultivation area to 2,000 ha this year

Direct seeding of rice is a farming method in which rice seeds are sown directly in the rice field without installing seedbeds or mechanical transplanting, and can reduce labor and management costs for rice farming by up to 85%.

It is considered a solution to the chronic labor shortage experienced in agricultural fields due to population decline and aging.

Last year, the area for direct seeding of rice in the province was 1,057 ha, and the Korea Agricultural Research Institute plans to increase direct seeding to 13,000 ha, which is 10% of the total rice area, by 2030.

To this end, we plan to provide agricultural machinery and agricultural materials such as seeders, seeds, coatings, and herbicides, and also carry out projects to distribute new technologies.

On this day, the province held a banquet at the Seocheon direct seeding complex, attended by South Chungcheong Governor Kim Tae-heum, Assemblyman Jang Dong-hyuk, Seocheon County Mayor Kim Ki-woong, and local farmers, and shared the results of direct seeding cultivation.
