On the 25th, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Governor Kim Jin-tae visited the Hwaji-ri area, Cheorwon-eup, Cheorwon-gun, and inspected the status of military regulations.

The site visited is a place where the restricted protection zone was lifted in February following the release and relaxation of the large-scale military facility protection zone at the end of last year. The area of the release is 3 million square meters, the size of about 420 soccer fields.

The region plans to promote rural water development projects and local tourism resource attraction projects to increase farm income.

Governor Kim took a bird’s eye view of the protected area area at the Cheorwon Culture and Welfare Center and heard from Cheorwon County Mayor Lee Hyun-jong about the current status of military regulations and difficulties in Cheorwon County.

Cheorwon is experiencing many difficulties in regional development as 95% (844㎢) of its total area is a military facility protection zone. Cheorwon County Mayor Lee Hyeon-jong proposed removing the 440,000 m2 site currently being operated as a flower garden in Goseokjeong, Dongsong-eup, from the military facility protection zone for the development of the Goseokjeong tourist district and lifting the height restriction on the site or relaxing it to 15m or less for the establishment of the Cheorwon-gun Food Integrated Support Center. .

Governor Kim Jin-tae said, “Starting with the improvement of military regulations in Cheorwon-gun this year, the Gangwon Special Act, which contains improvements in four major regulations such as forestry, environment, military, and agriculture, will be implemented on June 8.” He added, “Residents can directly exercise their property rights through improved regulations.” “I will do my best to utilize it so that you can enjoy the joy of doing it and it will directly lead to the revitalization of the local economy in Cheorwon-gun,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gangwon-do is conducting a survey on demand for sites to change and lift the Civilian Control Line and military facility protection zones to improve military regulations, and plans to select sites for proposal first and make recommendations to military units at the same time as the enforcement of the Gangwon Special Act.
