Chungnam Fire Department Appoints 6 New 119 Foreign Language Interpreter Volunteers < Society < Chungnam < Nationwide < Text of Article

(Chungnam = International News) Reporter Eui-gyu Park = The Chungnam Fire Department announced that it held an appointment ceremony for six new 119 foreign language interpreters in a small conference room at the provincial office on the 25th.

The event was attended by 15 officials from the Hongseong-gun Family Center, including the fire department and new interpreter volunteers. Following the awarding of appointment letters, there was time to share best practices of the 119 interpretation service and discuss directions for improvement.

Over the past three years, the provincial fire headquarters has provided 154 foreign language interpretation services in 16 languages, including Russian and Chinese, through interpreter volunteers at the 119 Comprehensive Situation Room.

As the role of interpreters becomes more important when responding to 119 calls from multicultural families and foreigners in the province, we plan to increase the number of interpreters from 16 to 20 by the end of the year.

In addition, we plan to continue activities to provide quality firefighting services, such as strengthening professional capabilities through three-way call training for foreigners, emergency personnel, and interpreters.
