On the 25th, People Power Party-elect Na Kyung-won, who succeeded in her fifth term in Dongjak-eul, Seoul, said about the so-called ‘Na-I (Na Kyung-won and Lee Cheol-gyu) alliance theory’, “I don’t think this is right.” The People Power Party plans to elect a floor leader on the 3rd of next month and a new party leader as early as the end of June. As President-elect Na is said to have met with President Yoon Seok-yeol after the general election, there are also speculations in the ruling party that Na, a 5-term member of the metropolitan area, will be the next party leader, and Rep. Lee Cheol-gyu, a ‘core pro-Yoon’ member of the National Assembly, will move toward the ‘Na-I alliance’.
President-elect Na appeared on CBS Radio that day and said about the possibility of running for party leader, “I have never thought about whether I should do it yet.” He said, “I am really thinking about what the party should do in the future,” and “But in that process, I have not decided on whether I should be the party leader, nor have I thought about it in detail.”
When the host asked about the expression ‘I-I solidarity’ used by some in the ruling party, the expression ‘solidarity’ is talked about in light of the old ‘Kim-Jang (Kim Ki-hyun, Jang Je-won) solidarity’, but at that time, former leader Kim Ki-hyun had very low approval ratings. “It would have meant that only then would we join forces and elect one person as party leader.” So I thought, ‘This isn’t right.’” President-elect Na said, “I have communicated (with President Yoon) since my election,” but when asked whether he communicated under the chairmanship of Rep. Lee Cheol-gyu, he responded, “I don’t think it’s necessarily true. “There are too many speculations and a lot of strange stories coming out,” he said.
Ahead of last year’s People Power Party National Convention, the pro-Yoon camp pushed Rep. Kim Ki-hyun as representative, and nearly 50 first-term lawmakers launched a ‘communist campaign’ to pressure the elected candidate not to run for the national convention. President-elect Na said, “Last year, I had not completely decided to run for party leader, but my truth was so distorted,” and “It was unfortunate that I was attacked within my own party (same party).” At the same time, he said, “If you only play with people who did not sign the contract, there are not many people to play with,” and “Some of the lawmakers who signed the contract also called and had dinner afterwards.”
