While working-level discussions are underway to coordinate the agenda and format ahead of the ‘leadership meeting’ between President Yoon Seok-yeol and Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party is continuing its hard-line stance, saying, ‘I did not request a leader-man meeting because I felt sorry for leader Lee Jae-myung.’

Jin Seong-jun, chairman of the Democratic Party’s policy committee, said on SBS Radio’s ‘Kim Tae-hyun’s Political Show’ on the 24th, “Representative Lee Jae-myung did not request a meeting with the leaders because he was disappointed about something.”

He said, “The president is out of sync with the will of the people and is leading national affairs as he pleases, and the country’s politics, economy, society, culture, and even national prestige are declining.” “It was a request,” he emphasized.

He continued, “If you look at the position that the president and the president’s office have shown so far, they are thinking that meeting the opposition party leader is a big change, as if they are giving a favor or a favor,” and “They say things like, ‘I will listen to the story without restrictions.’ Are you saying you will listen because you don’t know what the opposition party’s argument is and because you don’t know what the people’s demands are? “It is important for the president to clearly state to the public how he will change things,” he emphasized.

Regarding the issues that should be discussed at the leadership meeting, “There are two public opinions that emerged in the general election. “Symbolic measures must be taken to reflect the restoration of people’s livelihoods and a change in the tone of government administration,” he said. Regarding the recovery of people’s livelihood, “As Representative Lee Jae-myung has repeatedly said, the people’s livelihood recovery support fund is one of the symbolic measures,” and “Support measures for small business owners and common people suffering from high interest rates can also be devised during the supplementary budget preparation process. “It is not a problem that should be limited to the 250,000 won in livelihood recovery support,” he explained.

Some in the Democratic Party even argued that the special investigation of First Lady Kim Kun-hee should be put on the agenda.

Former Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae, who won the 6th term in this general election, said on CBS Radio’s ‘Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show’ that day, “When Representative Lee Jae-myung meets President Yoon Seok-yeol, ‘Lee Chae-yang Myung-ju’ must be put on the agenda.” Manipulation cases are linked to instigating accusations. “This is the case that is at the root of the prosecutorial coup,” she said. Lee Chae-yang Myeong-ju is what the Democratic Party refers to as a grouping of the Itaewon disaster, the Chae Sang-byeong incident, the suspicion of changing the end point of the Yangpyeong Expressway, the controversy over the receipt of luxury bags, and the suspicion of stock price manipulation.

Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Young-bae also said on YTN radio on the same day, “The key point in the case of the Special Prosecutor Act on Corporal Chae is that the President’s Office is suspected of intervening or exerting external pressure from power, so I am also working hard to ensure that the President’s Office and the government resolve these suspicions. He emphasized, “The Special Prosecutor Act on Corporal Chae must be accepted in order to restore trust.”

Ahead of the meeting between President Yoon and Representative Lee Jae-myung, the two sides held their first working-level consultation the day before and discussed the meeting agenda, but were unable to confirm the meeting date. As the differences between the two sides were exposed, it was not possible to even schedule the next working-level consultation.

Hong Cheol-ho, Senior Secretary to the President for Political Affairs, Cha Sun-oh, Secretary to the President for Political Affairs, Chun Jun-ho, Chief of Staff to the Democratic Party leader, and Kwon Hyuk-ki, Director of Political Affairs Planning, met at the National Assembly the afternoon before and had a preparatory meeting for the first round of the Prime Minister’s meeting for about 40 minutes.

Director Kwon said, “We discussed making policies to solve urgent people’s livelihood problems and important national affairs issues the agenda for the plenary meeting without adding or subtracting,” and added, “We decided to discuss the schedule for the meeting between Representative Lee and President Yoon again at a later date.” Both sides decided to hold the second preparatory meeting again after checking their respective preparations.

The party is presenting as its agenda the ‘250,000 won per person for all citizens’ livelihood recovery support fund, which is Representative Lee Jae-myung’s general election pledge. On the other hand, President Yoon said he would not place restrictions on the agenda, but opposing voices are growing, centering around the People Power Party.

Yoon Jae-ok, floor leader of the People Power Party, pointed out at a party meeting the previous day, “Most economic experts agree that if we unreasonably loosen the fiscal budget now, it will delay the escape from inflation and prolong the people’s price pain.”

People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo also argued for selective support on a radio station, saying, “I don’t think it’s right for the heads of conglomerates to receive 250,000 won, and even people in very difficult situations to receive 250,000 won.”
