The Palestinian armed faction Hamas released a video of American hostages being held in the Gaza Strip.
According to Reuters, Hamas released a video showing American-Israeli Hershey Goldberg-Pauline on the 24th (local time). It is known that Hersh was taken from a kibbutz (collective farm) to the Gaza Strip during Hamas’s Israeli airstrike on October 7 last year.
In the video that day, Hersey appeared with his wrists cut and complained that he had been “living in hell for about 200 days.”
He emphasized, “I know that (my family) is doing everything they can to help me return home as quickly as possible, but please give me more strength and not stop fighting until I and each hostage return safely.” It is unclear when and where the video was filmed.
Hershey’s mother, Rachel Goldberg-Pauline, has been actively campaigning for her son’s release, including meeting Pope Francis at the Vatican last year and appealing for help.
After the video released that day, Hershey’s parents urged the leaders involved in the ceasefire negotiations to reach an agreement.
Hershey’s family called on the parties negotiating a ceasefire and the return of the hostages “to reach a deal that will reunite us all with our loved ones and end the suffering in this region.”
