A grandmother in her 60s had a rollover accident while driving with her two-year-old granddaughter, drawing attention to the exact cause of the accident.
The driver claims that the accident occurred due to sudden acceleration, and the police are trying to determine the exact cause.
At about 1:10 p.m. on the 17th, at an intersection in Chilwon-eup, Haman-gun, a Tucson sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by driver A, in his 60s, collided with the car in front for unknown reasons.
This SUV ran for about 2.3 km and hit a traffic sign on a local road near the Chilseo Interchange (IC), then crossed over the guardrail in the opposite lane and overturned in a nearby rice field. Six nearby vehicles were also partially damaged in the aftermath of the initial collision and impact on the traffic sign.
In this accident, the driver suffered fractured ribs and his granddaughter, who was riding with him, was also injured.
It is known that the vehicle in which the accident occurred was a new car that was only two weeks old.
The black box video showed this SUV suddenly speeding up and urgently avoiding obstacles just as the light changed to blue and the SUV was about to slowly depart.
The driver who caused this accident claims that the brakes were not applied at the time of the accident and that he accelerated too quickly.
Meanwhile, the police requested the National Forensic Service to analyze the accident recording device, saying it was difficult to confirm whether the brake lights were on because the rear of the vehicle reflected sunlight.
