hello. This is Kim Si-zu @_szgyyy__, a 31-year-old who has just started her solo career in Namyangju, Gyeonggi-do. Since June of last year, I have been filling this house with my own stories.
This is an old apartment building, and the person is about to turn 40. The first time I came across this apartment was in 2016. I often walked down a side road to an apartment complex that I didn’t know I would take as a shortcut, and one day, I noticed a pretty flower blooming on the apartment wall.
It wasn’t until I discovered this flower that the scenery inside an unfamiliar apartment complex that I had never seen before came into view for the first time. It was filled with a friendly atmosphere that is difficult to find in a new city. It was a distressed house that looked like it needed a lot of repairs, but I fell in love with the view outside the veranda window and ended up signing a contract for that house right away.
Due to many twists and turns, it took almost a year to see the house, sign an actual contract, and start construction. Now that I think about it, I feel fortunate to have had that much time. If I hadn’t had the time to plan and budget for my first home repair, I would never have been able to do it.
1. Drawing
This is the basic drawing provided by Naver Real Estate. Actually, when I just looked at this drawing, I didn’t have any concerns, but when I actually went home and checked it with my own eyes, there was a big difference. The wall space near the kitchen wasn’t as spacious as in the drawing, and the small bedroom wasn’t that big either.
So I redrawn the drawing. Proper drawings are essential for design, but the dimensions were not provided and there were many differences from the actual house, so it was difficult to use as a reference, so I personally measured the entire house and filled it in one by one.
The problem was the location of the refrigerator. As you can see in the picture, the only kitchen wall where the refrigerator could be placed was in this condition. If I placed the refrigerator, I couldn’t use the sink space next to the sink at all.
So, I tried moving the kitchen to a small room (which tripled the budget! It also violated item 2. It required waterworks), and since I couldn’t place a refrigerator in the kitchen, I removed the door to the small room right next to it. I thought about throwing it away and using it as a secondary kitchen.
I think I drew at least ten house plans just for this refrigerator. After thinking about it for almost a year, I came up with the current house structure.
When designing a house, I first decided what I wanted to prioritize.
