13,000 medical students issued a ‘suspension of medical school enrollment’… All sir

The court did not accept the application for a ‘suspension of medical school expansion’ submitted by approximately 4,000 medical students. A total of 7 cases have been dismissed to date, following the rejection of applications for suspension of execution by professors, residents, medical students, and examinees from 33 medical school professor councils across the country.

According to the legal community on the 25th, the 3rd Administrative Division of the Seoul Administrative Court (Chief Judge Su-jin Choi) decided to dismiss the case filed the day before by 4,058 medical students against the Minister of Health and Welfare and the Minister of Education to suspend the enforcement of medical school quota increases. Dismissal means that if the requirements for a lawsuit are not properly met, the trial process ends without judging the merits of the case.

The decision on this day was made without a suspension hearing. Whether or not to present a defense in a case requesting suspension of execution may be decided at the discretion of the court.

This decision, like the previous decision, appears to have determined that ‘the applicant’s eligibility cannot be recognized.’

Attorney Byeong-cheol Lee, representing the medical students, filed an immediate appeal.

The case in which the decision was made today is one of three cases filed by 13,057 medical students on the 1st in protest against the decision to increase the number of students admitted to the medical school. The court decided to dismiss all three cases.

Including this one, the court sequentially dismissed seven applications for suspension of execution filed by the Korean Medical Association, professors, residents, medical students, and examinees since the 2nd. They all appealed.

Separately, on the 22nd, medical students from Chungbuk National University, Jeju National University, and Kangwon National University each filed an application for a temporary injunction against the university president to prohibit changes in the college admissions process. The interrogation will take place on the 26th.
