Coaches Jeon Chang-jin and Song Young-jin say, “We cannot give up the championship” in the ‘championship match between priests’.

Busan KCC coach Jeon Chang-jin and Suwon KT coach Song Young-jin, who will face off against each other in the professional basketball championship game, did not hide their desire to win. The two coaches expressed their affection for each other, but also pledged to do their best without compromise in the championship match, as it is a world of competition.

Coach Jeon and Coach Song attended the 2023-24 Jeong Kwan-Jang Professional Basketball Championship Media Day held at the KBL Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 25th and expressed their bid for the championship.

KCC, which advanced to the playoffs (PO) in 5th place, advanced to the championship game by beating Seoul SK 3-0 in the semifinals PO and beating regular season 1st place Wonju DB 3-1 in the semifinals PO. KCC aims to win the championship game for the first time in three years.

KT, ranked 3rd in the regular season, succeeded in advancing to the championship game for the first time in 17 years by winning 3-1 over Ulsan Hyundai Mobis in the 6th round PO and 3-2 against Changwon LG in the 5th game in the semifinals PO. KT will attempt to win its first championship this time.

Both teams will play the first game at KT’s home, Suwon KT Arena, on the 27th.

In this championship match, attention is focused on the brother match between Heo Woong (KCC) and Heo Hoon (KT), as well as the priest match between Coach Jeon and Coach Song.

Coach Jeon previously coached former player Song Young-jin when he was the coach of Busan KT (currently Suwon KT). Coach Jeon ordered Song Young-jin, who played mainly on the outside at the time, to play aggressively under the goal, helping Song Young-jin grow to the next level.

The two commanders, who are closely related, praised each other at media day and created a warm appearance.

First, Coach Jeon praised him, saying, “When Coach Song Young-jin was with me as a player, he had mental power and strong charisma, and this can be seen on the bench as well. He has good bench manners and is good at managing the game. He stands out among young coaches by far.”

Coach Song also expressed his respect, saying, “He is a coach with whom I had many good memories as a player,” and added, “It is an honor to be able to face a veteran coach in the championship game.”

However, the two coaches made it clear that winning the championship would not lead to concessions.

Coach Song said, “I will do my best as it has been difficult to get there after many twists and turns,” and “Because winning is winning, I will do my best to surpass the previous coach and become a champion.”

Coach Jeon also said, “There is no need for a priestly relationship in the world of competition,” and pledged, “I have no intention of giving up the championship, and I will end the series in Game 4 and confirm the championship at home with many fans watching.”
