The schedule for the Esports World Cup (EWC) to be held this summer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia has been released.

In relation to this, EWC organizers announced through their official SNS account that the competition will last for about a month and a half from July 3 to August 25.

EWC is a follow-up competition to ‘Gamers 8’, which has been run by the Saudi Esports Federation since 2022. In the case of ‘Gamers 8’, held in July 2023, a total of 12 events were held with a total prize money of 45 million dollars (about 59 billion won).

This year, the categories and prize money have been expanded further, attracting attention. When announcing the tournament outline on the 16th, the organizer announced that the total prize money for this EWC would be more than $60 million (KRW 83 billion). It surpassed the record of its predecessor, ‘Gamers 8’, and achieved the highest amount of e-sports prize money in history.

A total of 19 events have been adopted in the EWC, and 20 tournaments will be held based on these. Athletes and gaming teams can participate in multiple events, and additional prize money is awarded to the top 16 gaming teams based on overall performance. After the competition ends, the gaming team with the best performance will be crowned the first e-Sports World Cup Club Championship.

Meanwhile, Riot Games’ ‘League of Legends’, which has the world’s largest e-sports league, was selected as an official event for this EWC. In Korea, T1 and Gen.G are expected to join, and in the official promotional video, ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok Lee appeared as a famous player representing the sport, becoming a hot topic.
