‘Star 2’ David Kim, Tencent’s new RTS is in production

David Kim, famous for his work on the balance of Blizzard’s StarCraft 2, will present a new RTS.

This news was revealed in the documentary ‘Redefining the Game: A Paradigm Shift for the RTS Genre’ posted on Uncapped Games’ official YouTube channel on the 19th. Uncapped Games is a development studio within Tencent established in 2021. It is known that developers from Blizzard, including David Kim, gathered together.

David Kim joined Relic Entertainment in 2006 and was responsible for the balance of Dawn of War and Company of Heroes. He subsequently joined Blizzard in 2007 and worked with the StarCraft 2 trilogy. Afterwards, he continued his work on the Diablo 4 and World of Warcraft development teams before leaving Blizzard in 2017 and receiving attention for his future plans.

The documentary released by Uncapped Games was developed to examine the overall RTS genre by reviewing famous RTSs released to date and examining the development history and know-how of each developer. Here, David Kim said, “I believe the next step for RTS is to question the traditions of RTS and the way RTS are made.”

The documentary then reported that Uncapped Games was developing a new game. According to the development team’s explanation, the new game is characterized by the fact that anyone can easily enjoy it in a way that does not require quick operation or blindly memorizing fixed builds. In addition, it appears that it will progress in a direction that allows users to enjoy the instantaneous decision-making provided in the game more rather than a standardized build.
