[smartPC사랑=남지율 기자] ‘Laser Viper’ is a product with a very high level of recognition in the gaming mouse market. As this is a lineup that has been released over several years, it has gradually evolved by reflecting a lot of feedback from actual gamers, and has been evaluated as being specialized for FPS games with a symmetrical form factor and a shell specialized for claw/finger grips.
Razer distinguishes product generations with a ‘V’ after the product lineup name. In the case of Viper, ‘Razer Viper V3 HyperSpeed (hereinafter: Viper V3 HyperSpeed)’ was the only product belonging to V3 for a while.
A ‘Pro’ grade product has finally been added to the Razer Viper V3 lineup. The ‘Razer Viper V3 Pro (hereinafter referred to as Viper V3 Pro)’, which had been rife with rumors and speculation among PC gamers even before its release, has finally been released. In particular, this product is being produced in close collaboration with professional gamers, raising even greater expectations.

Viper V3 returns to pro level
Let’s start by looking at the components of the Viper V3 Pro. The mouse body, manual, USB Type-C to A cable, laser sticker, Hyperpoling wireless dongle, and grip tape are provided as standard. In the case of the grip tape, it is cut to fit the Viper V3 Pro from the beginning, so it can be attached more conveniently. This is a component that gamers who sweat a lot should pay particular attention to.
Hyperpolling wireless dongle is a wireless dongle that was originally sold separately, and when used with a compatible mouse, you can enjoy games with a precise polling rate of up to 8000Hz.
The view from the top is not much different from the Viper V3 Hyperspeed. The new design applied in the Viper V3 was applied almost identically. It has a symmetrical structure and is designed for right-handed gamers.
The most noticeable difference is that the DPI button at the top has disappeared. As the DPI button was removed from the top, it became possible to achieve a lighter weight, which is also the result of reflecting the opinions of professional gamers who said, ‘I want to prevent accidental pressing.’ Instead, the power button located at the bottom of the mouse doubles as the DPI button.
What does it look like from the side? Unlike the existing V2 model, the height has increased by 2mm, making it feel more comfortable in the hand. Additionally, the side buttons have been separated and the area of the buttons has been expanded, making it easier to press the side buttons.
When I held the mouse myself, the compatibility between the claw grip and the finger grip was excellent. In particular, when using a claw grip, a more stable grip was possible than with previous generation products.
Unlike the Viper V3 Hyperspeed, which requires AA batteries, the Viper V3 Pro has a built-in rechargeable battery, and has a USB Type-C terminal so you can conveniently charge it without having to worry about top or bottom. The battery efficiency is so excellent that it can be used continuously for up to 95 hours based on the polling rate of 1000Hz, which is commonly used in general wireless gaming mice.
In the previous generation model, the mouse buttons were exposed outside the shell, which led to cases where the little finger or thumb got caught on the side of the button during gameplay. On the other hand, this model uses a design where the shell and buttons are separated to prevent fingers from getting caught.
The Viper V3 Hyperspeed is equipped with mechanical switches on the buttons, but the Viper V3 Pro is equipped with the ‘Razer Optical Mouse Switch 3rd Generation’. Since it is an optical method, it is free from the ‘double-click’ phenomenon where the switch is clicked twice even when the user did not intend to, and the switch lifespan is a whopping 90 million times. Another feature is that you can click at a speed of 0.2ms without debounce delay.
What about weight? The actual weight was 53g, which was almost the same as the weight in the specifications. It is so light that it is difficult to find a competitor among wireless gaming mice with the same specifications (8000Hz, optical switch).
The bottom of the mouse also looks quite different. The mouse feet are placed wider than the Viper V3 Hyperspeed, which received higher preference in a blind test conducted by Razer.
The sensor is equipped with the 2nd generation Focus Pro optical sensor, which can capture more precise movements. It supports up to 35000 DPI and achieves an incredible accuracy of 99.8%.
A mouse that delivers top-notch gaming performance
I connected the mouse to my gaming PC. Since the hyperpolling dongle and Viper V3 Pro were pre-shipped, it was possible to connect and use them without any additional settings. Additionally, it is possible to check the operating status and DPI using the LED indicators on the mouse and dongle.
More detailed control is possible with Laser Synapse, Laser’s integrated control software. Users can set which function to assign to each mouse button and even choose what purpose the dongle’s LED indicator light will be used for.
A function to fine-tune the DPI up to one digit is provided, and a function to calibrate the sensitivity of the existing laser mouse to suit the Viper V3 Pro has been added.
After playing the FPS game ‘Overwatch 2’, the true value of the Viper V3 Pro was demonstrated. It is very light and the wider feet allow for light and smooth operation. In particular, the fact that melee attacks became easier as the side button could be clicked more easily also attracted attention.
In conclusion
Viper V3 Pro is a product that can be considered the pinnacle of symmetrical lightweight wireless gaming mice. Because 8000Hz is supported by default, it is possible to achieve faster performance, and the advanced sensor and optical switch are expected to maximize gamers’ potential. I recommend this product to those looking for a lightweight and powerful symmetrical gaming mouse. The price is 239,000 won.
