A new vertical floating solar power system was first introduced in Germany.

Solar Quarter reported on the 23rd (local time) that German solar company Sinn Power is developing the region’s first floating solar system in cooperation with KQ Zeiss, a gravel crushing plant located in Gilching, Bavaria.

According to this, unlike existing solar power facilities, this project is characterized by vertically arranged solar power modules.

It is characterized by using Shin Power’s patented ‘floating tilt’ module, which is a concept that optimizes power generation by adjusting the tilt of the module according to the angle of the sun.

In particular, because the panels are built using formulas, it is said to be advantageous in reducing land use and bypassing regulatory constraints. It can be flexibly deformed according to wind load and guarantees durability and stability.

Approximately 2,500 solar modules are scheduled to be installed. The module spacing is 3.9m, allowing efficient use of space.

The project is currently in the planning stage and is scheduled to begin in August. After carrying out preparatory work at the lake located within the gravel factory in Gilqing, full-scale solar power system construction is scheduled to begin in September. It is expected to produce a total of 1.8 megawatts (MW) of electricity.

The power produced will be used for the gravel plant, and any excess power will be integrated into the local power grid.

“We have high expectations about the potential impact of the project on the energy consumption of gravel operations,” said KQ Zeiss Managing Director of Codfree Zeiss.
