A book containing the accumulated experience and know-how of industry, academia, and research experts in the field of emotional artificial intelligence (Emotional AI) has been published. It is expected to be helpful in establishing efficient strategies to dominate the emotional artificial intelligence global market.

The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) published a specialized book titled ‘Emotional Artificial Intelligence: Human Understanding and Emotion Augmentation’, planned by the Human Augmentation Research Laboratory and co-authored with domestic experts.

In an era where emotional artificial intelligence is gradually becoming a part of our lives, it is evaluated that it presented prospects and implications on the importance and development direction of emotional artificial intelligence, which is in its infancy in the market in fields such as technology, services, and industry.

In order to dominate the global emotional artificial intelligence market, it is important to develop strategies proactively, strengthen capabilities, and create innovative services based on human emotions.

This book is largely divided into four parts. Part 1, an overview, contains content that can be helpful in understanding emotional AI overall.

We analyzed the growth and evolution of emotional artificial intelligence research and looked at emotional well-being using emotional artificial intelligence, risk factors and solutions that may arise from the use of emotional artificial intelligence, and the social impact of empathy-based emotional artificial intelligence.

Part 2, Technology, consists of technical content centered on the interaction of emotions between humans and artificial intelligence, such as recognizing, creating, and expressing human emotions. We covered technology to quantify emotional models and social emotions, brain wave-based emotion recognition technology, and key technologies for developing emotional robots.

Part 3, Service, consists of specific service use cases using emotional artificial intelligence. It introduced major emotional artificial intelligence application fields such as domestic and international emotional artificial intelligence service provision cases, digital healthcare, and edutech, and covered the components of mobile emotional artificial intelligence and cases of data collection and algorithm development.

Part 4, Industry, contains content such as competitiveness, systems, and industry revitalization plans for the emotional artificial intelligence industry. We looked at emotional artificial intelligence technology and utilization trends in the industry, domestic emotional artificial intelligence industry competitiveness diagnosis and strategic response plans, and the government’s emotional artificial intelligence regulation and industry development direction.

Hyuntae Jeong, senior researcher at ETRI’s Human Augmentation Research Lab, said, “We preemptively predicted future changes in the era of emotional artificial intelligence that understands and interacts with human emotions and behavior. “It is significant in that it addresses future strategic directions from the perspective of experts on technology, services, and industries,” he said.

ETRI Director Bang Seung-chan also said, “As emotion-based interaction between humans and artificial intelligence becomes more advanced, we are covering not only technology development and useful services for emotional artificial intelligence in the early market stage, but also adverse effects of negative effects from a comprehensive perspective, so that our government and companies “I hope it will serve as a foundation for establishing future response strategies.”

The research team is currently carrying out the “Human Understanding Cognitive Computing Technology Research” project. The task is to collect data in daily life to understand and learn emotions and behaviors, and to predict emotions and behaviors based on learned experiences.

Through this, we are researching complex information-based experience situation (action/situation/emotion) recognition and prediction technology, human understanding technology through experience attribute analysis and pattern discovery, and experience data management and analysis prototype system.

This book is a project of the ETRI Human Augmentation Research Center and has been developed by companies actively working in the field of emotional artificial intelligence, such as KAIST, Chung-Ang University, Hanyang University, Sangmyung University, Sookmyung Women’s University, Seokyeong University, Korea Intelligence Information Society Agency, Emotionist, and Dsquare. ·It was jointly written by 13 academic and research experts and published by Yulgok Publishing.
