A Chinese woman in her 30s fell to her death while taking commemorative photos at a famous volcano tourist site in Indonesia.
According to local media on the 22nd (local time), a Chinese woman named Huang died after falling into the crater of Ijen Volcano in eastern Java, Indonesia, on the 20th.
At the time, Ms. Hwang climbed to the edge of the crater to watch the sunrise with her husband and posed for a photo.
Mr. Hwang took the picture from a place about 2 to 3 meters away from the edge of the crater, but gradually began to get closer to the crater.
The tour guide warned him, “It’s dangerous to get close to the crater,” but Hwang paid no heed and focused on taking better pictures.
In the end, Mr. Hwang accidentally stepped on his own clothes, lost his balance, and fell into the crater.
According to the police, the height from which Mr. Hwang fell was known to be 75 meters.
Mr. Hwang hit his head on a stone, suffered serious injuries, and died with his left leg fractured.
Rescue workers at the scene took nearly two hours to retrieve Mr. Hwang’s body.
The volcano where the accident occurred is called the ‘Mountain of Fire’ and is a famous tourist destination for the so-called ‘blue fire’ phenomenon, in which sulfur gas and air react at temperatures exceeding 36 degrees Celsius, burning and emitting blue light.
The mysterious scenery has captivated tourists and has emerged as a popular tourist destination, but accidents are also constant.
Last February, a Polish tourist in his 50s was found dead on a hiking trail while hiking, and in September 2015, a 68-year-old Swiss man died after complaining of difficulty breathing while heading to the crater.
