The first news is ‘Return’.

First, let’s look at the photo together. The shoes that appear to be rain boots are covered in sand. Would you believe these boots are new?

It doesn’t feel like it’s a new product because there’s a lot of sand on it. This photo was released yesterday (25th) through an online community for self-employed people.

The owner who released this photo introduced that he was selling chest boots online, which are worn in the mudflats or when wading in the ocean. They say they received a request to return the boots in the photo on the 24th.

It’s ominous. Why did you ask me to return it?

They say ‘because the size doesn’t fit.’ The president complained, “Usually when a return or exchange request comes in, the product is well packaged and returned in good condition, but this time, the product came back covered in sand like that.”

The embarrassed owner immediately took a photo and contacted the customer who submitted the return. He called and said, “It is difficult to return the used product.” The customer then said, “I just tried them on and the size didn’t fit, so I put them back and sent them back.”

In response, the president explained, “It doesn’t look like a new product that has been tried on because there is no plastic packaging and it’s covered in sand. If the value of the product drops, we can’t return it.”

The customer said, “Can’t I just dust it off and clean it?” and “I haven’t used it, so what’s the problem?” He even said he would shake off the sand if I sent him something again.

After finishing the phone call, the president said, “Of course, it could be that they only tried them on in the sand and never really used them,” but added, “But shouldn’t we just shake off the sand and package them before sending them out?”

Afterwards, I asked the CEO directly about the situation.

The boss said that after much deliberation, he sent the item back. A long message was also left for the customer.

In the message, the president said, “Even if you really tried the shoes on and returned them because they didn’t fit or you didn’t like them, sending them away covered in sand is beyond common sense.”

He also wrote, “Some people were cautious about whether they could exchange it even if the packaging plastic was torn, and some people sent it roughly, but I think I was more embarrassed because it was the first time I had seen such heavy signs of use.”

The president also added, “When an exchange or return is received, we check the condition of the product and if there are no problems, we repackage it and sell it, but I don’t think I can sell this to another customer in good conscience.”

The customer responded to this message saying, “I apologize for sending the product back without checking.” The customer explained, “I tried them on in an inner tent at a campsite in front of the sea, but I didn’t expect them to get sandy after just walking one or two steps.”

However, this customer still expressed his intention to shake off the sand and deliver the product back to the owner. The customer said, “If the product has been used in earnest, contamination will remain on the torso and shoes,” and “I am saying this because I have not used it.”

The president said, “I can remove the dirt and improve the condition of the product. However, it would be difficult to recognize it as new and sell it to other customers. Please consider the seller’s position as well.”

Lastly, the owner also told me that refusing a refund like this could lead to a malicious review. The president said that many self-employed people are having a hard time because of this.
