[시사종합신문 = 오승택 기자] The season opener of the ‘2024 KIC-CUP Touring Car Race’, supported by Jeollanam-do and hosted by the International Automobile Speedway, will open on the 26th and be held for three days until the 28th at the International Automobile Speedway.

The ‘KIC-CUP Touring Car Race’ is a competition hosted by the KIC Business Group, which operates an international automobile racetrack to foster motorsport beginners and players since 2015. Five competitions are held annually in seven sports, including Formula, a racing sport, automobile, motorcycle, and drift.

In the Target-Time Trial, which has the highest participation rate among the general public, participants pre-specify the time they will run for one lap and are then ranked according to the closest time. It is an introductory motorsport sport that anyone can participate in as long as they are equipped with basic safety equipment such as a helmet, gloves, and suit.

The TC-1600 (Touring Car Challenge), in which amateur players participate, is a sprint format in which mass-produced vehicles with engine displacements of 1,600cc and 150 horsepower or less start at the same time and the vehicle that runs 13 laps quickly wins, so the competition for ranking is expected to be fierce.

Motorcycles are divided into an introductory course for 300-400cc and an upper-middle class for 500cc and above, and the winner is determined by adding up the fastest lap times over three rounds. The 3km driving time is expected to be 1 minute and 28 seconds for 300-400cc and 1 minute and 17 seconds for 500cc and above.

The drift event, in which the most players participate, gives points and determines the ranking based on how stable and artistic the performance is in each corner. It’s like a figure competition using cars. As it is operated as a 1-on-1 match tournament, you must concentrate in each match as you can be eliminated due to a small mistake.

Jeonnam Provincial Corporate City Manager Lee Sang-yong said, “We have organized a variety of sports so that everyone, from amateurs to professional athletes, can easily participate and experience them. We will strengthen our role as a gateway to motorsports and actively work to expand the base population.”

Various information related to the competition can be found on the International Automobile Speedway website (www.koreacircuit.kr), and the D stand near the kart racetrack is open and can be viewed for free.
