South Jeolla Province has prepared thorough infectious disease prevention measures to ensure that the 2024 National Boys (Disabled Students) Sports Festival is held safely and successfully in May.

Infectious disease prevention measures analyzed recent trends in infectious disease outbreaks at home and abroad and reflected the infectious disease risk assessment.

The main contents include △establishing a rapid response system for prevalent infectious diseases in spring, △providing quarantine supplies and promoting infectious disease prevention rules in preparation for the Sports Festival, and △Guidelines for quarantine and disinfection for volunteers at each stadium.

In particular, it was determined that intensive surveillance would be necessary for water-borne and food-borne infectious diseases and respiratory infectious diseases that commonly occur in the spring, and it was decided to form and operate a quarantine task force for each stadium.

During the competition, we plan to maintain a 24-hour emergency contact system with quarantine personnel from provinces, city and county public health centers, medical institutions, and each event to prevent the spread through rapid reporting and on-site epidemiological investigation in the event of a patient.

In addition, quarantine management based on the manual will be promoted, including disinfection before and after the game, provision of quarantine supplies, and designation of quarantine managers for each event and city and county. Three volunteers were assigned to each stadium and were instructed to carefully disinfect highly contaminated areas such as entrances, restrooms, and multi-use handles.

KRW 200 million was spent to purchase 9 types of quarantine products, including hand sanitizer, insect repellent, and masks for children and adults, to provide sufficient supplies in the stadium, and to post posters promoting personal quarantine rules, such as immediately reporting clusters of patients with high fever or diarrhea, posted throughout the inside and outside of the stadium. did.

In order to completely block the use of groundwater, which is the main cause of norovirus outbreaks, thorough on-site inspections were conducted, including measuring the amount of residual chlorine not only in the stadium but also in mobile room bathroom faucets, and tap water was made sure to be supplied to all facilities.

To prevent Legionellosis infection, we plan to thoroughly inspect cooling tower water and faucets in multi-use facilities, including bathing facilities, bathrooms, hot and cold water, and water play facilities.

Jeonnam Province Health and Welfare Director Lee Sang-sim said, “As the main characters of the sports festival are youth, we will prepare thorough quarantine measures appropriate for each age group to make it a festival where dreams and hopes can be freely expressed in an environment safe from infectious diseases.”

The 58th National Sports Festival for Students with Disabilities will be held in 17 stadiums from May 14 to 17, and the 53rd National Boys Sports Festival will be held in 50 stadiums from May 25 to 28.
