President Yoon Seok-yeol nominated lawyer Oh Dong-woon as the final candidate for the head of the High-ranking Public Officials Crime Investigation Office on the 26th. It has been about three months since Kim Jin-wook, the first head of the Corruption Investigation Office, finished his term.

On this day, Presidential Office Spokesperson Kim Soo-kyung held a briefing at the Yongsan Presidential Office and said, “President Yoon today nominated attorney Oh Dong-woon as the final candidate for the head of the Corruption Investigation Office among the two candidates recommended by the National Assembly High-ranking Official Crimes Investigation Headquarters Candidate Recommendation Committee.” Spokesperson Kim then added, “We plan to quickly request a personnel hearing from the National Assembly.”

Once Attorney Oh completes the personnel hearing process and goes through the final appointment process, the vacant position left by Kim Jin-wook, the first head of the Corruption Investigation Office, who ended his term on January 20, will be filled.

Previously, the Corruption Investigation Director Candidate Recommendation Committee recommended lawyers Myung-soon Lee and Dong-woon Oh as final candidates in February. However, until today, President Yoon has not nominated a candidate for the next head of the Corruption Investigation Office. Regarding this, an official of the President’s Office said, “It is a position that requires a personnel hearing by the National Assembly, so it must be carefully reviewed, and since there was an election, the nomination and personnel hearing procedures were carried out taking into account the National Assembly schedule.” He added, “The complaint to the Corruption Investigation Office in the Chae Sang-byeong case was filed against the former head of the Corruption Investigation Office. The investigation was carried out last September while he was in office, and I understand that the Special Prosecutor Act was already proposed in September of last year, unrelated to the Corruption Investigation Office’s investigation. Therefore, it is unfair to link the nomination of the head of the Corruption Investigation Office with the Special Prosecutor Act,” he explained.

Attorney Oh served as a judge at the Seoul Western District Court, a judge at the Seoul High Court, and even served as a constitutional researcher at the Constitutional Court.
