The police have begun an additional mandatory investigation into Lim Hyun-taek, the next president of the Korean Medical Association.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Public Crime Investigation Unit announced that it is conducting additional searches and seizures from 10 a.m. on the 26th at the office of the Korean Association of Pediatrics, where President-elect Lim served as president, and his home in South Chungcheong Province. A police official explained, “It was confirmed that the first cell phone confiscated had been used in the past, so additional confiscations were made to secure cell phones currently in use.”

Previously, the Ministry of Health and Welfare reported former and current executives of the Korean Medical Association, including President-elect Lim, to the police in February on charges of instigating and aiding the mass resignation of medical residents. Accordingly, on the 1st of last month, the police reportedly executed a search and seizure warrant on five current and former executives of the Korean Medical Association and began a mandatory investigation, securing related materials such as mobile phones and computers, minutes of emergency committee meetings of the Korean Medical Association, and struggle roadmap.

The Korean Medical Association’s presidential transition committee said in a statement on the 26th, “There appears to be a clear intention in carrying out the additional search and seizure a few days before the start of President-elect Lim’s term in May,” adding, “The government wants to have a dialogue with the medical community in front of the public.” He criticized, “Performing a search and seizure afterwards is a very petty act.”
