Lee Jun-seok, leader of the New Reform Party, said on the 25th, “The president and the ruling party will pay the price one by one for the mismanagement accumulated over the past two years,” and “We will probably face an unprecedented situation in which multiple special prosecutors will be activated.”

According to the political circles on the 26th, at a press conference invited to the Seoul Foreign Correspondents’ Club (SFCC) held at the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul the afternoon before, Representative Lee said, “The president planned a cover-up regarding the death of Corporal Chae Soo-geun of the Marine Corps last summer, and in the process, during the time of prosecutor Yoon Seok-yeol, “The value of investigation without sanctuary, which the people loved most, has been lost,” he said.

Representative Lee said, “There is already not much public resistance to the operation of a large number of special prosecutors due to President Yoon’s abuse of the veto power,” and added, “If the standards established while investigating the two former presidents are applied to President Yoon Seok-yeol, it will be problematic.” “There’s already a lot of work to do,” he said.

Representative Lee said, “Can you believe the reality that Lee Jun-seok and Cho Kuk, who tried to kill him politically, are pointing out him as members of the National Assembly?” and “The approval rating of the Yoon Seok-yeol government, which has fallen to the 20% range, means that it is actually difficult to run state affairs normally.”

The People Power Party also criticized the ruling party for not playing its role properly. Representative Lee said, “The ruling party, which has so far defended the president who has consistently been unilateral, is also struggling without being able to come up with an alternative.” He added, “The helpers called ‘Yoon Haek-gwan’ (pro-Yoon Seok faction) who have sympathized with the president’s various mistakes are still claiming that they are the party. “What will change in a situation where you think you have to lead?” he said.

The meeting between President Yoon and Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was also evaluated negatively. Representative Lee said, “Can it be sincere to meet and talk with Representative Lee Jae-myung, who was referred to as a criminal not long ago?” and “We will probably face an unprecedented situation where multiple special prosecutors are in operation.”

Representative Lee said, “It is difficult to predict that the attempt at cooperation will be successful in a situation where a prosecutor who has spent his entire life investigating and punishing people is forced to adopt a cooperation that he did not want after seeing the bitter taste of public sentiment.”

Representative Lee said, “Speaking of this, it seems as if Korea’s politics has been sentenced to complete death and it feels hopeless,” but added, “But somehow we have to get the wheels of politics rolling again. Still, there are some seeds of hope confirmed through this National Assembly election process. “I would like to mention it,” he said.

Representative Lee said, “It is difficult to analyze my election as a member of the National Assembly in Dongtan through existing frameworks such as conservative, progressive, and centrist. Ultimately, in the future elections, young voters in Korea will declare competition for a future that appears uncertain and difficult. “The New Reform Party is trying to be at the forefront of that competition,” he said.

Representative Lee said, “The New Reform Party is a young party. All three elected members of the National Assembly were born in the 1980s. We are a party that must live and accept the report card of the politics we do now and the choices we make 30 years from now.” Therefore, we will pursue responsible politics while looking toward the future, and that is where the new reform party is most different from existing political parties.”

Also, when asked if he had any plans to embrace female voters, Representative Lee said, “Nowadays, more than the absolute lack of education and opportunities, there is a need to implement various policies to prevent unfairness when moving up the ladder in the workplace. “I think it’s time,” he said. “I don’t think this issue can be solved by confrontation between men and women.”

Representative Lee said, “In dealing with these issues, cool-headed logic and a will to improve the system are needed, and I think there should not be many inflammatory remarks that stimulate the psychology of a specific gender. In that sense, there have been a lot of changes made mainly by the Justice Party over the past few years.” “I would like to draw attention to the fact that the somewhat issue-oriented and inflammatory agendas that were put forward did not elicit much response from young women,” he said.
