(Daily Daegu Gyeongbuk News = Reporter Kim Hyeong-man) The Gyeongsangbuk-do Health and Environment Research Institute monitors ozone generation by continuously operating the ‘Ozone Warning System’ from April 15 to October 15, when temperatures and solar radiation increase.

The ozone warning system is implemented to quickly notify citizens when high concentrations of ozone are generated and minimize damage caused by ozone. A warning is issued when the one-hour average ozone concentration in the atmosphere is above 0.12 ppm, and a warning is issued when it is above 0.3 ppm.

Ozone is a secondary pollutant generated through photochemical reactions with volatile organic compounds and nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere at high temperatures, causing strong irritation and damage to the respiratory tract and lungs. Therefore, when an ozone advisory is issued, it is especially recommended for children and the elderly to stay indoors and check the status of the warning.

The research institute monitors the status of ozone concentrations at air quality measurement stations in 47 cities in the province in real time through the Air Quality Situation Room, and when warning or warning standards are reached, the status is notified to related organizations such as media outlets, schools, and text service applicants in each of the 22 city and county units. inform.

If you want a text message service, you can check it on your mobile phone by applying for the ‘ozone warning text service’ through the Gyeongsangbuk-do real-time air quality information (http://air.gb.go.kr) operated by the research institute.

Lee Hwa-seong, head of the environmental research department at the Institute for Health and Environment, said, “This year, temperatures are expected to be higher than the summer season, and unlike fine dust, ozone is not blocked by masks, so children and the elderly need to evacuate indoors.” He added, “Resident health is maintained through systematic and accurate ozone monitoring.” “We will do our best to protect them,” he said.
