[무안=뉴시스] Reporter Song Chang-heon = Jeonnam Province announced on the 27th that it plans to recruit new candidates for the ‘2024 Youth Hope Stepping Stone Bankbook’ project by May 3 and select 1,570 people by July of this year after qualification screening.

The Youth Hope Stepping Stone Bankbook Project is a project in which local governments and young people jointly open savings accounts to help build assets for self-reliance.

If a young person faithfully saves 100,000 won per month for 3 years, the provincial government, city, and county will provide self-reliance support, so that he or she can receive double the principal amount (up to 7.2 million won) and additional interest at maturity.

Those eligible to apply are young people born between 1979 and 2005, and their address on their resident registration must be in Jeollanam-do. You can apply if you are a worker or business owner with at least 3 months of work experience in the past 6 months and your household income is less than 120% (KRW 2.67 million for a single-person household).

For more details, check the business announcements on the provincial/city/county website and visit the administrative welfare center in the town/village/dong with jurisdiction over your address or apply by registered mail.

This project, which started as a youth happiness policy in 2017, has so far been participated by 6,073 people, and 3,399 people have received maturity benefits, receiving 24.7 billion won. It was found to be useful for housing expenses, employment and start-up funds, and marriage funds.

Kim Myeong-shin, head of the Population, Youth and Immigration Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, “I hope that the Hope Stepping Stone account will be the starting point for self-reliance and asset formation for hard-working young people.” He added, “We will continue to discover and implement customized support policies that can be felt by young people in Jeollanam-do to improve the quality of life for young people.” He said.
