Professor Shin Hae-jin of Chonnam National University selected as winner of the 6th Korea Scholar Award

(Yeongju = International News) Reporter Baek Seong-ho = Yeongju City announced on the 26th that Shin Hae-jin (64 years old), professor of Korean language and literature at Chonnam National University, was selected as the winner of the ‘6th Korea Scholar Award’.

The winner was recognized for his contribution to exemplary succession of the modern scholarly spirit through academic achievements and social contributions through academic research.

In particular, through the publication of 66 volumes of practical translations, including those related to the Japanese invasions, the Horan Dynasty, the Ming Dynasty, and the Later Jin Dynasty, we learned about filial piety, loyalty, propriety, respect, and sincerity during the national suffering in the 17th century. By understanding the practical aspects of the spirit, we have revealed how scholars tried to protect Confucian ideals through the internal conflicts, moral choices, and social responsibility experienced by our ancestors.

In addition, with the attitude of studying to reveal the true self, we translated 80 Korean and Chinese novels to contribute to communication between the past and present and the spread of humanistic values to the public, promoting the unique scholarly spirit. He was recognized for his great contribution.

In May 2018, Yeongju City enacted the first ordinance in the country to award individuals or groups who have made significant contributions to promoting the scholarly spirit, conducting academic research, implementing the scholarly ideology, and practicing the scholarly spirit.

The city held an open call for candidates for the Scholar Award for two months from January to March, and finally selected the winners after document screening and local screening by the Scholar Award Steering Committee (Chairman Jeong Se-geun).

The 6th Korea Scholar Awards Ceremony will be held at the opening ceremony of the Yeongju Korean Scholar Culture Festival on May 4.
