A mother dying in an airstrike gave birth to a baby in Gaza who died after four days.

A premature baby born through emergency surgery in the womb of a mother who was fatally injured in an Israeli airstrike died four days later.

According to Reuters on the 26th (local time), baby Sabrin Alou, who was born by caesarean section to a mother who was 30 weeks pregnant on the 21st, died the day before at the Emirates Hospital in Rafah, Gaza Strip.

“The baby was born with an immature respiratory system and a very weak immune system, which is why he died,” said Muhammad Salama, head of the hospital’s emergency neonatal unit.

Sabreen al-Sakhani, a refugee from Rafah, the southernmost part of the Gaza Strip, arrived at the emergency room of Kuwait Hospital in Rafah in critical condition after suffering head and abdominal wounds from an Israeli airstrike on the night of the 21st, and died shortly after giving birth via cesarean section. .

The baby, born prematurely weighing 1.4 kg, was named ‘Sabrine’ after her mother and was later transferred to the Emirates Hospital in Rafah, where she was treated in an incubator.

According to the Gaza Strip’s Ministry of Health, 19 people, including al-Sakhani’s family, including her husband and 4-year-old daughter, were killed when two houses were hit by an Israeli airstrike on Rafah on the night of the 21st.

Israel has designated Rafah, the southernmost border city in the Gaza Strip, as the last bastion of Hamas and is preparing for ground operations and continuing airstrikes against the area.

However, the international community, including the United States, is dissuading Israel, saying that if street fighting breaks out in Rafah, where about 1.4 million refugees are gathered, a huge loss of life is expected.
